Stellar Insights: October 16 - 22
Here are some insights about the opportunities and challenges that this week’s astrology may offer. May they help you make the most of this moment. Should you want to see what the current planetary movements are catalyzing for you—what your here/now and near future may be inspiring—based upon your personal astrology chart, we can explore that in a Stellar Guidance Session.
Did you get to see the Solar Eclipse on Saturday? Lucky for me, the clouds parted for just enough time that I was able to see it. We didn’t have the “ring of fire” experience here in Seattle but witnessing—through those special eclipse glasses—the obsidian lunar orb obscuring most of the Sun, leaving only a fiery-orange crescent sliver on view, was pretty majestic and magical. Please feel free to share your eclipse-viewing experiences and reflections below in the comments if you feel so moved.
I’m also curious if you’re noticing any Eclipse-associated shifts in your life from an astrological perspective? Remembering that the Eclipse was in the sign of Libra, I wonder whether you’ve noticed any new movements related to relationships, realizations connected to what justice means to you, understandings as to how to define fairness and/or notions as to how to carve paths that offer equality, symmetry, and balance?
Remember too that with a Solar Eclipse, while the new may feel as if it’s emerging, oftentimes it is accompanied by a completion of something, which seems to clear the field so that what is burgeoning has solid roots to emerge. (If you’d like a reminder of what the New Moon Eclipse may invite in—notably too as it connected with the dwarf planet Eris—you can refer to this article which I sent out the other day.)
This week, the significant astrological events arise as the weekend approaches. On Friday, we have a Sun/Mercury Conjunction (also known as a Mercury cazimi). As I noted in my Well + Good article on cazimis…
On the day of the Mercury cazimi, notice how your mind may feel brighter and your communication more coherent. Mercury is the planet of information and travel, and all things in these realms are dialed up by the Sun's proximity. Conversations can become portals for dynamic learning and help us connect with others who are interested in subjects we hold near and dear. (For more on cazimis, read the whole article.)
That said, it feels like the tenor of what may arise in conversations, in research, in reading, and in our minds may feel intense. After all, the Sun and Mercury happen to make a square alignment with reveal-the-hidden Pluto. Dig around for truth, suss out secrets, and turn towards that which you may have been casting a blind eye. Approach situations as an archaeologist, detective, and/or psychologist would. The Plutonian currents may continue to put us face to face with the harrowing nature of the underworld (remember that we’ve been intently swimming in these dark seas for a bit given that Pluto stationed last week). And yet it can also rip off facades so that we see what is actually going on in the substrata of situations (including how power is consolidated and used and/or abused). This has the potential to lead to deconstructions and reconstructions that evidence solutions and structures that are more sustainable, holistic, and and ideally life affirming.
On Sunday, messenger Mercury enters Scorpio, where it will reside through November 8. As it plunges into this emotional and passionate sign, it makes a flowing trine alignment with structured Saturn. Given this, this weekend may be a good time to give shape and form to some of your ideas, notably those that have a deeper level of significance and power within them. Also on Sunday, pleasure planet Venus makes a lovely connection with expansive Jupiter. Spending time with others who you value, with whom you can learn new things as well as discover some delight, may be one way to open to the invitations of the moment.
