Here are some insights about the opportunities and challenges that this week’s astrology may offer. May they help you make the most of this moment. Remember that if you would ever like to see how the planetary movements are inspiring you, based upon your personal astrology chart, we can explore that in a Stellar Guidance Session. (Know that if you live in the Seattle area, you can opt for an in-person session, which I do from my office in the Pioneer Square neighborhood.) Also, if you’re interested in relationship astrology, check out two recent articles on Well + Good to which I contributed—this one on shadow sides and this one on Venus signs.
I had a freak (and thankfully minor) accident this weekend. I was placing a freshly washed mug on the second level of the cabinet where we store our glassware. Not realizing that the shelf was packed to the gills, as I tried to make space for the mug, it displaced a porcelain cup; it came crashing down to the first shelf, and then immediately broke into two sharp pieces, one of which ricocheted onto my arm in the precise position that caused it slice my skin like the sharpest of razor blades. (Thankfully, it didn’t hit an important vessel and the bleeding stopped in short order after the application of lots of pressure.)
All I could think of in the moment, as I tried to get my head around how shockingly random the series of events unfolded were, was how it seemed utterly connected to the archetype of the Mars/Uranus Square, which becomes exact as this week begins.
Why? Because Uranus is related to chaos, surprises, the unexpected, and I-didn’t-have-that-one-on my-bingo-card experiences while Mars is related to speed, movement, sharp objects, and incisions—which really seemed like a way to frame what I had just experienced. (With Mars also being a martial and warrior archetype, and Uranus being associated with rebellion and revolt, the out-of-the-blue coup attempt that occurred in Russia on Sunday that seemed to surprisingly end as fast as it began also felt very Mars/Uranus Square.)
I share all this not to say that Mars/Uranus portends that we all have surprising accidents (or experience external or internal unexpected coups) but as a way to share how this alignment may underscore the importance of being open to detours and pivots as well as serve as a reminder of the existence of pathways that can lead to us previously unforeseen outcomes (including, for me, to create a better system to organize my kitchen). Given that it will be values-oriented Venus’ moment to square Uranus on Sunday, an invitation to literally or figuratively move around the furniture as well as the adoption of a Stay Bouncy! orientation may help us ride the waves of astro inspiration this week.
As we get closer to the weekend, we may find ourselves pulled into an ocean of emotions and a swirling sea of sympathy, empathy, and compassion. The energy may feel dispersive as if things are less separate and more united, less discernable and more interconnected. We may question the notion of boundaries, and whether we would be better off to soften or strengthen them. The opportunity for dreaming up a new vision, accessing a hotline to the muse, and perceiving the mythic, mystic, and symbolic should also feel more proximate. Allow yourself to be inspired by the ideal while also remembering the actual limits of the real; this can help you attune to how to forge riverbanks that can shape important realizations. All this, thanks to Neptune in Pisces stationing, set to move into its retrograde cycle on Friday.
This occurs in the midst of Saturday’s Mercury/Sun Conjunction. Also referred to as a Mercury cazimi, this celestial connection may infuse our hearts and minds with a stream of thoughts and feelings. Given it occurs in Cancer, it seems important to recognize that inspiration and knowledge may not only arrive through the logical but through the emotional. Cancer’s rhythm reflects that of its totem, the crab, which moves in a sidling fashion; as such, instead of feeling pressured to follow a straight line, let yourself veer here and there as you explore both the outer contours and inner silhouettes of ideas and inspirations. (Doing so should have us feel as if we are swimming with the tide rather than against the current, given that the Neptunian influence will also have us inclined to meander and go with the flow rather than follow a stringent and structured route.)
One final note: last week—on June 19 to be exact—Venus entered its pre-retrograde shadow period. What this means is that it is now moving through the swathe of the zodiac that it will travel back through during its upcoming retrograde phase. As such, we may be getting our first introduction to themes and topics, subjects and structures that will be our focus for reconsideration, review, and re-evaluation during Venus Retrograde (which begins on July 22 and goes through September 3).
Should you be interested in learning what this upcoming Venus Retrograde may inspire for you personally, based upon your astrology chart, know that I am now offering special ½-hour sessions that will give you individualized stellar insights to help you best navigate the next few months, helping to shift the potential challenges of Venus Retrograde into opportunities for growth and evolution. Have a stellar week!
