Last month I launched my monthly New Moon articles. Here’s the latest in the series—this one on the Scorpio New Moon, which happens to be a Solar Eclipse, occurring on Tuesday, October 25. It includes an overview of the energetics of this lunation as well as corresponding calendar connections, journalling prompts, and self-care suggestions. You’ll also find information helpful for Moon Mapping this month, including ideas for intention setting and the dates/times for each of the eight lunar phase. Look for the weekly Stellar Insights first thing tomorrow, which will give reference to this Solar Eclipse in combination with the rest of the week’s movement-inspiring astrology.

This month’s Scorpio New Moon is also a Solar Eclipse. Regardless of whether you can see the Eclipse in the sky where you live, these celestial events are renowned for being very powerful in the way in which they can impact our lives.
Oftentimes, life-changing events or reflections occur around the time of an Eclipse. Yet, remember that reflective of the word itself, things are often “eclipsed” around the time of Eclipses. As such, you may find yourself feeling like there is a sea change occurring in your life. Yet while you may deeply sense that new seeds are being planted, it’s common to also feel like you’re still unsure exactly what the fruit they will bear will look like and how it will shift your life. Know that clarity may become greater when weeks and months pass; and so if you’re not yet certain as to what it is that is being given form, that may be just as it should be.
The Scorpio Solar Eclipse invites us to initiate ways in which we can connect more deeply to the depth of our emotions and the hidden well of richness that resides in the sanctum of our hearts and minds. Scorpio represents that which is hidden: the unseen and that which is kept in the dark. When you come up against the margins, the places that you don't necessary readily want to traverse (and yet the ones that you may feel very compelled and intrigued by), that terrain is the realm of Scorpio. As such, this may be a time in which you feel yourself more on edge because you find yourself aware that you’re at the edge. As you circumambulate the perimeter that juxtaposes what you deem to be safe and unsafe, you may discover it possible that the former may not truly serve you and give you the depth of security you perceived it would. All the while, you may sense that the latter, and the volcanic stirrings that it carries, may actually carry with it the messiness of growth and evolution that you deeply desire. Going through this terrain may also have you more aware that while being vulnerable can feel scary at first that it also gifts with you rich treasures.
During a Scorpio New Moon, subjects considered to be taboo may rise to the surface. If your natural reflex is to turn a blind eye to these, allow yourself to contemplate them for a moment, even if at a distance. You may end up finding them a great source of learning; just understanding why it is that they cause aversion itself is a powerful lesson.
Speaking of desires, do an inner survey and see which ones you may have cast aside for fear of owning the full extent of your passion, and your power. Consider how you can own and stand for them, and integrate them into the weave of your life so that you can feel more complete and whole, and enlivened.
Communication with others is often tricky territory during deep Scorpio times as we don’t necessarily trust that our secrets—the essential keys of who we are—are safe with just anyone. And while this is a gorgeous time for inner diving, if you feel that you’re gravitating towards walling yourself off and know inherently that’s really not the direction you want to go, see how you can step out of that pattern. Call up that trusted friend, make a date with your sibling who knows you so well, and/or schedule an additional session with your counselor. It’s a great time to explore our depths and sometimes sharing that with another is not only really comforting but can also forge a whole other level of connection within the relationship.
Additional Features of This Scorpio New Moon
Venus is a connected companion with this New Moon Solar Eclipse, given that shortly after the Eclipse is exact, the Moon unites with the love planet. Given that, our relationships may be a powerful portal for more deeply understanding our values and what we find has richness in our lives. We may see where our approach to relationships has kept parts of our self hostage to our fears and any sense of disempowerment we carry. Meeting this awareness may allow us to shed old entrenched parts of ourselves and then re-engage with others from a place of more integral honesty and emotional clarity.
This month’s New Moon Solar Eclipse falls at 2 degrees of Scorpio. If you know your astrology chart, look to see what house that zodiacal spot falls in—and whether it connects to any of your planets or personal points—to further hone in on what this lunation may inspire for you. Here’s a free resource where you can cast your astrology chart if you don’t already have it. (Also, if you’re interested in doing a Stellar Guidance Session—whether a 45- or 75-minute one—focused upon how this and the upcoming Lunar Eclipse may be inspiring your chart—and therefore your life—write me here for more information.)
Calendar Connections
I find it interesting to track whether a planet will reside in the zodiacal position of the month’s New Moon as this can often reflect opportunities for further sparking the creative potential of what was generated. For this lunar month, that spot is 2 degrees Scorpio. Here are some dates to note:
October 24: Venus will pass through the New Moon point. This may be a day in which your focus turns to your relationships and in doing so it can reflect the new shift that this Solar Eclipse is inspiring for you.
October 30: Mercury will pass through the New Moon point. Research and conversations may help you to further embody the growth that you are experiencing.
Stellar Reflection Questions
Here are some prompts for journaling and/or meditative inquiry that align with this Scorpio New Moon:
What do I really desire?
How can I invite more passion into my life?
The emotions I feel most strongly are:
Scorpio New Moon Self-Care Suggestions
Scorpio is associated with the genitals, reproductive system, urinary tract, and large intestines. Pay attention to these parts of the body and areas of health around the time of this New Moon. Here is a suggestion for both an elixir and an activity that may help inspire your well-being around the time of the Scorpio New Moon.
Elixir: Pink Monkeyflower Flower Essence
As Scorpio energy allows us to probe deeply, this New Moon Solar Eclipse can be an auspicious time to go within and find the aspects of ourselves that we have been hiding, likely because of fear of being vulnerable or concern that if we show who we truly are we may be abandoned. This emotional armoring—usually accompanied by an inherited sense of shame—keeps us from sharing ourselves truly with others (and sometimes even with ourselves) and restricts us from living more freely. Pink Monkeyflower flower essence can help fortify our hearts, assisting us in taking emotional risks so that we can let our true self more fluidly flow through. (Flower essences are made from flower-infused water and work energetically to restore emotional and mental balance. You can find them in natural food stores or holistic pharmacies.)
Activity: Do a Mud Treatment
This lunation calls for exploring a full range of experiences with less mind paid to whether or not it requires us getting our hands a bit dirty, whether literally or figuratively. As such, a mud treatment is a great self-care treatment aligned with this time. Being mired in mineral-rich mud—whether on your face or body—can help improve circulation, aid in detoxification, and relax muscles. You can purchase mud masks in pharmacies as well as stores that sell beauty products. Similar to mud, ventilated green clay can be used to make healing poultices that can be applied to sore body parts to help relieve joint and muscle pain.
This Month’s Moon Mapping
Each month’s New Moon is thought to be an opportune moment for crafting intentions, envisioning what you want to bring to form over the subsequent four weeks. By following an approach called Moon Mapping, you can align your actions and orientation throughout the month so as to more readily manifest your intentions.
For an overview on the energetics and opportunities that each of the eight lunar phases offers, see this article I wrote.
For ideas on what to focus your New Moon intention setting upon this month, consider aligning it with motifs associated with Scorpio. This includes topics such as mysteries, secrets, money, power, sexuality, passion, and desire. And/or you could look to see where 2 degrees of Scorpio (the location of the New Moon) falls in your astrology chart—which house and/or whether it connects to a planet or pivotal point—and use that information to help you hone your intention.
Here is a calendar of the eight lunar phases, which you can use along with the Moon Mapping information on my website. Note that each phase lasts about 3.7 days. (I’ve included the date/time of the subsequent New Moon so that you will know how long the last phase, the Balsamic Moon, lasts.)
