The Libra New Moon invites us to explore what harmony looks like. In doing so, we may find ourselves more aware of what’s in balance and what isn’t. This understanding may inspire us to discover ways we can work towards being an advocate for peace, fairness, justice, and parity. What equality means and how to promote it may capture our attention. Diplomacy is a key theme as we’re drawn to learning ways to be a better mediator and negotiator.
The Libra New Moon is a good time to survey our relationships and see how we may encourage them to flourish in ways that further grace our lives. Using the image of the Scales—the symbol for Libra—as your guide, weigh and assess the value of your relationships, considering their strengths and weaknesses; see what needs to be attended to and given a bit more TLC. In addition to relationships, Libra also governs the realms of beauty, pleasure, and sociability. And with that, you may find yourself tuning into those topics including how you define them and how you can weave them through your life even more.
Unique Features of the Current Libra New Moon
September 25’s New Moon opposes Jupiter in Aries. And with that, “more” and “extra” and “additional” and “expanded” may seem like commonly uttered words. With Jupiter’s call to make things bigger, we may find ourselves setting our sights upon greater horizons, notably when it comes to envisioning the extent of enrichment that our partnerships can actually offer us. Yet, while Jupiter encourages us to stretch our view of what’s possible, as you do, remember to also keep in mind what is probable, so as not to set up expectations that can’t be reached. Also, with Jupiter in Aries’ involvement with the New Moon, we may find ourselves impassioned to be a champion for peace and justice. Additionally, we may feel exceptionally energized and motivated to initiate social plans. Watch, though, for the potential for impatience and frustration, including should there be delays in actualizing any get-togethers.
You may find you have a greater interest in giving voice to what you value and/or that others seem more communicative than usual about their love life or financial matters. Additionally, conversations may err towards being more revealing than you anticipated, with it seeming to be easier to just “go there.” The reason for this is that over the next days, messenger Mercury meets up with love planet Venus, with both making a harmonious trine to probe-deeper Pluto.
This month’s New Moon falls at 3 degrees of Libra. If you know your astrology chart, look to see what house that zodiacal spot falls in—and whether it connects to any of your planets or personal points—to further hone in on what this lunation may inspire for you.
Calendar Connections
I find it interesting to track whether a planet will reside in the zodiacal position of the month’s New Moon as this can often reflect opportunities for further sparking the creative potential of what was generated. For this lunar month, that spot is 3 degrees Libra. Here are some dates to note:
October 1: Venus will pass through the New Moon point. Find allies who can help you clarify and bring forth the visions that this lunation inspired.
October 12: Mercury will pass through the New Moon point. You may find yourself called to further share what you began to realize during the New Moon and/or discover the need to learn more about subjects that caught your attention during this time.
Stellar Reflection Questions
Here are some prompts for journaling and/or meditative inquiry that align with this Libra New Moon:
How do I define justice?
What’s my relationship with compromise?
What are the qualities I look for in a partner?
Libra New Moon Self-Care Suggestions
Libra is associated with the skin, lower back, and blood sugar balance. Pay attention to these parts of the body and areas of health around the time of this New Moon. Here is a suggestion for both an elixir and an activity that may help inspire your well-being around the time of the Libra New Moon.
Elixir: Scleranthus flower essence
During this very diplomatic of times, there’s often a stronger sense that we need to make the “right decision.” And yet that pursuit can lead to indecision with excess weighing and measuring of options oftentimes leading to wavering and a sense of stasis. If you need assistance fostering greater inner resolve to confidently and consciously make decisions, consider Scleranthus flower essence. (Flower essences are made from flower-infused water and work energetically to restore emotional and mental balance. You can find them in natural food stores or holistic pharmacies.)
Activity: Adorn your dining
The sign of Libra inspires a reverence for all things graceful, a desire for aesthetic fulfillment, with beauty nurturing a sense of peace within. Take this into consideration as you create your mealtime as this can transform it into an occasion that is more aesthetically and soulfully nourishing. Make each meal a special event by easily dressing it up by using candles, placemats, and cloth napkins. If you have china and/or silverware you reserve for that every-now-and-again holiday, use it more frequently during this time. Adorning your dining can be a way of adorning your sense of well-being.
This Month’s Moon Mapping
Each month’s New Moon is thought to be an opportune moment for crafting intentions, envisioning what you want to bring to form over the subsequent four weeks. By following an approach called Moon Mapping, you can align your actions and orientation throughout the month so as to more readily manifest your intentions.
For an overview on the energetics and opportunities that each of the eight lunar phases offers, see this article I wrote.
For ideas on what to focus your New Moon intention setting upon this month, consider aligning it with motifs associated with Libra. This includes topics such as justice, equality, pleasure, beauty, fashion, value, relationships, and sociability. And/or you could look to see where 3 degrees of Libra (the location of the New Moon) falls in your astrology chart—which house and/or whether it connects to a planet or pivotal point—and use that information to help you hone your intention.
