A Week of Cazimis (plus ushering in the Vernal Equinox)

Cazimi.

This astrological term, rooted in history, has recently made its way into popular celestial parlance. Derived from the Arabic term kaṣmīmi—which means “as if in the heart”—it refers to the moment when a planet is uniting with the Sun. It’s another way of saying that a planet is conjoining with the Sun; for example, a Mercury cazimi is also referred to as a Sun/Mercury Conjunction.

When a planet is cazimi, the qualities that it represents are thought to be purified, strengthened, and more greatly illuminated. The intimate connection it has to the Sun at that moment is thought to fortify the planet’s qualities, making it a stellar time of auspiciousness for the characteristics, traits, and realms of life with which it is associated.

Why am I sharing this? Because this week, we have two cazimis: one involving Neptune and one connected to Venus.

The former, the Neptune cazimi, occurring on Wednesday, inspires us to see the love and magic in the world around us. It may also have us come face to face with more numinous realms of life such as spirituality, clairsensations, and the collective unconsciousness. We may sense an ethereal interweaving that threads us all together, with greater compassion and empathy streaming forth. Watch for a clarity within your dreams—both your inspirations and nighttime visions—as they become more trusted portals not only to your intuition but also to timeless wisdom.

And then on Saturday, we have the Venus cazimi, a day in which beauty, allure, and pleasure reign, and the feminine shines bright in all its power. Through it we may find ourselves accessing more understanding about the richness that relationships contain (or are void of). Sociability may be heralded as we discover that doing an activity with another brings greater joy than experiencing it on our own. Focus on what has value and what doesn’t, as well as the ways that you can further treasure your own worth. Claim and embody the asset that you are.

And while technically not a cazimi—since these only involve a planet’s dalliance with the Sun—this week we also experience the North Node forming a conjunction with the Sun (occurring on Monday). During this yearly event, we may find ourselves attuning to a sense of destiny, feeling a deeper sense of identification related to what is a shared part of our collective and/or individual soul’s purpose or longing.

Also this week, we greet a seasonal change. With the Sun shifting into Aries on Thursday, the Vernal Equinox signals the arrival of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and fall in the Southern Hemisphere. When this annual Equinox occurs it also signals the Sun residing on the cardinal axis (the zero degree point of Aries, or Cancer, or Libra, or Capricorn); this zodiacal position is thought to be associated with the world stage and when highlighted we often find ourselves witnessing experiences that remind us that the personal is political and the political, personal.
