Changing of the Lunar Guards: The Moon's Nodes Shift Signs
As the week begins, let yourself dream. See where your thoughts drift, what ideas reach the shores of your psyche, what waves of inspiration you feel compelled to catch.
See how the information you access—whether through listening, reading, or viewing—arrives just at the moment you need it. Watch how it can ferry you from a viewpoint to which you’ve grown accustomed to one that signals the way forward towards a pioneering vision.
Alternatively, as we get a glimpse of forward, we also need to continue to hold space for what emerged before, approaching it with a fresh orientation. I note that because on Monday, Mars re-enters the mood-oriented and sensitive sign of Cancer.
It will reside here through the rest of its retrograde cycle (it stations direct on February 23). It will then sidle forward in Cancer through April 18 when it will once again roar into self-expressive Leo.
While Mars is retrograde in Cancer, it’s a time to review and reflect upon how our emotions galvanize us into action. We may also come to understand how we block ourselves from deeply tending to our needs.
This year is one in which we encounter numerous shifts in the landscape as a multitude of planets change signs. While the first one—Neptune—won’t do so until March, a significant celestial refashioning does occur this week with the *Lunar Nodes moving from Aries (North Node) and Libra (South Node) to Pisces (North Node) and Virgo (South Node).
And with this, we move into a year-and-one-half period in which we’re called to see the rewards that union, universality, interconnectivity, shimmer, and transcendence can bring. All the while, we may also perceive how being too hyper-focused on the piece parts rather than the whole keeps us in patterns of criticality and judgement.
This weekend the Moon should be large and luminous. And while it may appear to be completely brimming with light, it’s still in its waxing phase, not completely a Full Moon until Monday. More on the inspiration of that lunation next week.
Until then, all my very best,
Stephanie
* There are two ways to measure the Lunar Nodes: they are referred to as the True Nodes and the Mean Nodes. It is the True Nodes that are shifting signs on January 11. For those who use the Mean Nodes, this sign shift doesn’t occur until January 29.
